JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:                   Project Manager (BLD) 

REPORTS TO:              Operations Manager/General Manager

JOB FAMILY:               Managerial

DIRECT REPORTS:      Site Superintendents, Foremen, Site Administrator         

GRADE: 10                    APPROVAL: A4

 JOB SCOPE

The Project Manager (BLD) acts as a leader, operator, and steward of commercial and large residential construction projects. The leader guides, motivates, and supervises staff and sub-trades. The operator, a recognized expert in the profession, directs the production process, including, budget development, schedule development, proposal writing, execution of construction projects, estimating, and contract negotiations. The steward monitors progress against project plans, scope, schedules, and budgets to ensure completion of projects on time and within budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication  

  • Liaise with clients by attending progress and bid clarification meetings, safety meetings, and management meetings  
  • Human Resource Management
  • Oversee the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance 
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions, merit increases, and perform evaluation of employee performance 

Operations Management

  • Receive and critically review work orders, preliminary plans, and proposals to determine feasibility/advisability.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness; ensure adherence to approved plans and specifications, and effect changes required for improvement 
  • Maintain fluency in construction safety and quality assurance requirements 
  • Interact with private consultants/contractors and inspect and monitor contractual work for compliance with plans and specifications 

Financial/Risk Management

  • Direct project planning, scheduling, document control, progress monitoring and cost control 
  • Visit and inspect job sites to determine project specifics 
  • Determine materials, tools, equipment, and personnel requirements 
  • Keep upper-level management informed of project status and any special concerns 

Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintain client relationships and develop new business
  • Discuss projects with requesting party, private contractors, and administrative officials
  • Utilize technical knowledge to interpret clients’ complex technical needs and promote solutions from the company’s repertoire of industrial experts 
  • Develop, nurture and maintain business relationships within a broad network of business contacts in the industry 
  • Represent the organization at various community and/or business meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies 
  • Ensure compliance with corporate group policies and mandates of local, provincial, and federal agencies 
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Local to Fort McMurray
    • No flights
    • No camp accommodations 
    • No Living Out Allowance 
  • Familiar with estimating, budgets, and  sound project management principles
  • Attention to detail, strong mentoring and interpersonal skills; well organized
  • Technical training or degree in construction, construction management, or project management, with 5 or more years of experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
